Can I install the inverter ahead of the start/reversing switch at the machine ,with a switch at the inverter to power it up at the power supply ? I would be using it to supply 6o cycle to a mill or lathes one at a time .
No, a switch cannot be installed between the inverter and the motor. But you can lead your switch signal to the control terminal of the frequency converter, which is the forward and reverse signal, and input it into the frequency converter. The frequency converter will allow your motor to realize forward and reverse rotation. Because the output of the frequency converter can only power the machine, not any other power supply on your equipment.

i purchased the a2-8030 for a 2 HP 240 volt three phase small lathe I have had for years. Hooked it directly to motor. as soon a the VFD is turned on the fault OC-r, which says overload or component fail. With motor disconected (NO load) the VFD is showing 260 volts between all three legs. motor plates states 6.4 amps full load. what can I do to get it to run?
This is caused by a switch between the inverter and the motor. The simplest description is that you are using the inverter as a power supply, which is not allowed. Just connect the switch on your equipment to start and stop, and the frequency converter will control it.

This looks like what I need to power my 3 phase dust collector.  Its 2 HP and draws 6 amps when on 3 phase.  I need to convert my single phase power.  other question is what is the switch you show it hooked up to?

I have purchased several of these units and have sold several friends on their great qualities. This has been in use for 3 months and is totally dependable. Single-ph. to 3-ph. and full speed control. The newer versions have a dial for speed that makes it even nicer. Incredible buy, especially compared to a rotary converter. User manual was complete and understandable, easy to wire and had my 2HP motor running in minutes. I opted for this because I'm controlling with a CNC controller 0-10V output. If I was going to manually control it, I would have purchased a VFD with a speed knob.

I recently restored a beautiful 1935 era industrial tablesaw. I had no idea what to do with the 5hp 3 phase motor. After a little research I thought I'd give this a try, once I got some info I rewired everything to my home 220v one phase and this converter. It works perfectly. The quality is excellent. The manual is terrible and very little help but the customer support was responsive and helpful. I can't wait to convert some more old 3ph motors!

These are great spindles. I have 2 of them. I run them on my V1 Engineering CNC Machines and they do amazing. So much quieter than the dewalt palm router I was using before. The only complaint I have is I wish I could set the VFD to show RPM. It might be possible and I just haven’t figured it out yet. Still a great spindle and it’s easy math to convert the Hz to rpm in my head.
